I’ve been training with Phil at West Coast Strength and Movement for almost twenty years, usually two or three times a week. Over that time my goals have changed — usually strength and conditioning, sometimes sport-specific, now as I get older rehab or mobility — and Phil has adapted the workouts each time. Phil and the other trainers are tremendously knowledgeable about physiology and movement, and they explain things clearly without ever talking down to you. The workouts are specific to my needs and goals, and if I’m tired or not making progress in one area, Phil adjusts to that right away. Their attention to what my body needs that day and that month is remarkable. The gym is clean, well-equipped, and has a focused, private atmosphere. For that hour, I genuinely feel like I’m the centre of Phil’s attention, even though there are other clients working with their own trainers. I’ve also worked out with trainers Alex, Steve, and Tom - they’re all of the same attitude - helping me towards that particular training goal, with proper form and pushing as hard as I want (or, need) to be pushed. There’s no sales pressure here — just good people who care about helping you move and feel better. Whether you’re a beginner, an athlete, older, or recovering from an injury, you’ll be in excellent hands.

I have been a client of West Coast Strength and Movement for over two years. My primary trainer is Alex Jack; although on occasion I have worked out with both of the principles, Phil and Nick and the variety in the workouts is enjoyable and engaging. My personal results in regard to strength and stability is beyond what I would have imagined to be achievable. But even more impactful than the great workouts is the friendly environment. The gym owners and trainers are fun, energetic and welcoming people who make everyone feel comfortable and included. Regardless of where you maybe on your fitness journey, the dedication by the staff and level of respect and engagement makes everyone feel like they belong, which in my opinion makes it a superior gym.

I began training with Phil as part of rehab for a sports injury. Through a series of expertly crafted programs Phil has helped me get to a place where I am stronger and more resilient than before the injury, and I’ve had tremendous fun learning new (to me) strength and movement skills along the way. Phil is incredibly knowledgeable and is always to adapt the training to the day - whether that’s going for a new PB or backing things off, when needed. Great facility and good people. Highly recommend West Coast Strength & Movement!

I’ve been training at West Coast Strength and Movement for over a year, and Jay’s been amazing to work with. He’s attentive, creates effective workout routines, and always finds ways to work around my injuries while still keeping things challenging. The gym has such a great vibe — it’s very welcoming and never feels intimidating. The trainers are all friendly, and there’s a real sense of support and good energy in the space. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to keep showing up. Highly recommend Jay and the team at West Coast Strength and Movement!

I've been training with Nick on and off for almost 9 years! Him, Phil and the West Coast crew may be the most knowledgeable and dedicated personal trainers in the city. I always love stepping into the facility.... great vibes, good people, and you always know you're in good hands. Just had an amazing session and Nick right away was able to pick up on my imbalances and weaknesses and resolve or help me work through the issues. Highly recommend!
