First Steps Wellness Centre is a non-profit facility in Regina, Saskatchewan that provides intensive activity-based therapy for individuals with neurological impairments such as spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, brain injury, cerebral palsy and spina bifida. The centre offers programs including Spinal Cord Injury Program, Children’s Program, Neuro Rehabilitation Program, Parasport Training and Community FES Cycling, serving people with these conditions across Regina, Winnipeg and Sherbrooke. Their activity-based therapy aims to improve motor function, independence and quality of life by promoting neuroplasticity.

This is Hilda Schmidt, the wife of Steve. I was seen by Kaitlyn McLeod on May 5, 2025. My injuries are motorcycle accident related. I have a slight left sided stroke, my left eye peripheral vision is very poor, as is my vision, my balance/walking is very poor. As well, I have no taste or smell, and I have an acquired brain injury, which really affects my memory. Katie had me do several balancing exercises, among others which I don't remember. She was very friendly, very professional, very knowledgeable, and she kept things moving at a steady pace. I was very comfortable working with her.

I can't express enough how truly life-changing our experience has been at First Steps Wellness Centre. The staff make us feel welcome and at ease. They are not only incredibly professional, but also kind and genuinely caring. Their expertise and knowledge are second to none, and you can feel the difference in the approach they take. My daughter, who suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, has made remarkable progress since coming to First Steps. Erika, who she primarily works with, has been instrumental in her journey, offering tailored therapies and unwavering support every step of the way. Her dedication and passion is so evident every single day. I am beyond grateful for everything the entire staff has done, and I would highly recommend First Steps Wellness Centre to anyone seeking exceptional care. It has been an amazing experience for my family, and I will forever be thankful for the positive impact they’ve had on my daughter’s life.
