I visited Collective Salon (downtown Calgary) for a hair wash and blow-dry and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience with the stylist, Hue Nguyen. During the hair wash, her nails hurt my ears multiple times. There was no apology or acknowledgment, which immediately made me uncomfortable. Throughout the appointment, she repeatedly used the phrase “what do you mean” in a strange and dismissive tone rather than asking for clarification politely. While blow-drying my hair, instead of asking me to adjust my head, she kept tapping my head, which felt unprofessional and disrespectful. I also politely requested that she use less heat on the front of my scalp due to hair thinning. Rather than being understanding, she made an uncomfortable facial expression and continued the same behavior. Overall, there was a complete lack of warmth, communication, and basic courtesy. I felt awkward and disrespected throughout the service. Because of this experience, I chose not to tip and left feeling quite upset. I hope the salon takes feedback like this seriously, as professionalism and client comfort are just as important as technical skill.

I recently moved to Calgary and was looking for a new hairdresser for my curly hair and the blonde highlights I always get, so it was important for me to find someone who understands both colour and curls. I’m so glad I found Wissam. He’s the owner, and from the consultation alone I could tell he actually listens. He gave me an amazing curly haircut and my curls have never felt this light, bouncy, and full of life. I asked for honey beige highlights that wouldn’t be too warm or too cool since I have a neutral skin tone, and he absolutely nailed it. He took his time to make sure the shade was exactly what I asked for and didn’t rush the process at all. What really impressed me was how efficient he is! I expected the session to take 5–6 hours based on past salon experiences but he was done in about 3 hours which included the consultation, washing, hair mask, toning (twice), a ton of foils, and blow drying. Wissam is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly understands different hair types. I also really appreciated that he doesn’t try to push expensive shampoos or products. He only gives honest advice if you ask and recommends what actually makes sense for your hair. The pricing is also very fair for the level of service and care you get. I was so satisfied with my results that I referred a friend and she’s been just as happy, especially since she’s always struggled with stubborn grey spots. On top of everything, Wissam is genuinely kind and pleasant to be around. Finding a new hairdresser after moving cities can be a gamble but I’m so happy I took a chance here. I truly can’t recommend him enough!

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Wissam, and I can confidently say he’s an absolute standout. He’s incredibly kind, easy to communicate with, and genuinely open to suggestions, everything just feels effortless with him. Beyond being great to work with, he’s simply a truly good man. Thank you for such a great experience, Wissam.

I booked a last minute appointment with Hue and asked for a shoulder-length bob cut with bangs and ended up with a chin-length pageboy haircut (look it up, seriously). There are absolutely no layers so it lays like a mushroom on my head. It’s so short that there is no opportunity to fix it for at least a few months while it grows out, and I can’t put any of it up. She had me turned away from the mirror the whole time and kept tilting my head forward while cutting which I found odd. I was so shocked I just paid for the haircut ($80) and walked out. I barely remember leaving the salon, I don’t think it really hit me until this morning. I have my office Christmas party tomorrow and I’m dreading having to watch everyone pretend to like my cut. I’m genuinely considering skipping the party to defer the embarrassment for a few days. Feels like a cruel joke. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Just a short note to say thank you to Wissam, the stylist whom I consider to be a ``master`` of cutting and styling hair. Wissam listens to what I want ,and he never fails to give me the perfect cut because he understands what cut best suits my hair texture and face. If you want a great cut and style, I highly recommend Wissam. His staff is very professional too.
