Now that I’ve had time to process the trauma I went through, I want to leave a review about the terrible experience we endured here. My partner’s mom, who is a senior, had a senior long hair cat that she was struggling to take care of, and as a result the cat’s fur became incredibly matted. My partner and I became concerned when we visited one day and saw this, so we tried to brush her hair and cut it as it was really matted. We were unable to fix it ourselves, so my partner took the cat to this vet clinic the next day to see if they could help. They took the cat to the back and started shaving her, and they cut her entire stomach open! I thought the vets, as professionals, would be able to cut out the worst mats without cutting her stomach wide open (which I didn’t even think was a possibility) but apparently not. A younger male vet at the clinic then berated my partner for the state of the cat, as if it was our fault, when it’s not even our cat and we were just trying to help! They put the cat under anaesthetic and stitched her back up, and we then took care of her for 2 weeks because my partner’s mom could not reliably take care of the cat. We gave the cat her medicine that she was prescribed and kept her clean with a cone on and her wound seemed to heal perfectly, no external sign of infection at this point. I ended up spending 20 hours over 1 week cutting the mats out of her fur with scissors, which I successfully accomplished as someone who has never groomed a cat before, without even 1 nick to her skin. Around the 2 week period since her surgery, we took her back for a follow up so they could take out the stitches. We had the same younger male vet as last time, and he was blown away that we had gotten all her mats out successfully with no injuries. He took out her stitches and said everything looked great and that she should be fine now. A few days later, I go upstairs to find her unconscious on the ground. We immediately rushed her to the vet, and the same male vet again said we could euthanize her or do a barrage of testing to figure out what was wrong. This cat was a very old senior cat and we did not want to put her through more suffering, so we approved the euthanasia. This was an incredibly traumatizing experience for me. This happened almost a year ago and I still cry and feel sick about what happened. I suspect she went unconscious and was in such bad shape that last day and deteriorated so quickly because she must’ve had an infection from her stomach wound that gave her sepsis or a blood infection. I feel so much regret and guilt for bringing her to the vet that day to have her shaved. If we hadn’t brought her she wouldn’t have gotten that cut on her stomach, which is, I feel, the reason she died. This clinic did allow us to stay with her after for as long as we needed to spend time with her and sent us a nice follow up letter, but I do feel extremely disappointed with the service we got here.

In this world where compassion and understanding are in short supply, they are in abundance here, Dr. Tomkowicz and his staff helped make a very difficult time as comfortable as possible.
Knowledgeable, and professional.
Love your cat dearly. You many only know them for a fraction of your life, but they love you for the entirety of the theirs.
