I booked a wash, cut, and blow dry with Julian, and as always, I walked in trusting him completely with my hair. I usually let him do what he feels is best, and it always comes out beautifully perfect. Julian has been my hairdresser for over 15 years, and I know I can always rely on him to take care of my hair. He is professional, consistent, and always makes the appointment feel comfortable.
The new salon is lovely—intimate, welcoming, and stylish. Thom and Julian are so hospitable, and being there is always such a great experience.
Highly recommend!

I debated posting this, but I think it’s warranted given how the experience played out.
I was running about 15 minutes late due to really bad traffic. I tried calling three times before the appointment to let them know, but no one answered, so I left a voicemail. When I arrived, the owner (who I’d originally booked with) politely let me know that I'd be getting a cut from another barber due to the delay—which I completely understood. I was late, and that part was on me.
I quickly mentioned that I just needed a minute to pay for parking (I had taken a photo of my decal to do it from my phone). But on the way to the shop, I had dropped my AirPods and just realized I had lost one of them—probably somewhere on the street. I told them I was really stressed, having a rough day, and that maybe it would be best if I just canceled the appointment so I could go find it and not make things worse for myself. The barber assigned to me responded by saying he was going to charge me. That caught me off guard. I froze—I’ve got pretty bad social anxiety and wasn’t in the right headspace to advocate for myself—so I just went through with the cut, even though I was already overwhelmed.
And to be honest, I felt rushed into it. I was sitting down for a haircut knowing my AirPod was probably still lying on the side of the street, and I hadn’t even paid for parking yet in a sketchy part of downtown. I wasn’t in a clear or comfortable state of mind at all. After the appointment, I walked around for quite a while trying to find it but had no luck—which just added to the stress of the whole experience.
To be fair, the barber did a good job on the front and sides. It didn’t match the reference photo I showed him, but my hair is super thick and puffy, and I even told him that wasn’t really his fault.
What bothered me was the vibe. After the cut, on the way back to the reception area, I think I saw him look at his coworker in a way that seemed like an eye roll or a dismissive glance. I’m not 100% sure—it might have just been a quick look—but in the moment, it felt off. I’m unfortunately quite hyper-aware of everything, more than the average person, so maybe he thought I wouldn’t catch that—but it stuck with me.
Then came payment. I was told I’d be paying what I would have for a cut with the owner, even though I got the cut from someone else. Again, I froze, unsure what to say. He offered me a discount, and I ended up paying $85 before the tip. Not ideal, but I let it go.
When I got home, my partner took a look at the back of my head and noticed a large section of hair that had been completely missed. (Photos attached.) That was disappointing on top of everything else.
To be clear: the owner was polite and professional, and this review isn’t a reflection of him personally. It was just a mix of a high-stress day, an awkward interaction, and a lack of understanding from the barber that really soured the experience.
EDIT (Response to Owner): Oof I’m disappointed to see misinformation in the response. I did not miss a previous appointment—I called on Tuesday to cancel it, following the policy, and rebooked for Friday. I have the call log to prove this. Also you just added 10 minutes to the time i was actually late lol...I was transparent and respectful throughout, so it’s upsetting to see my experience mischaracterized. Not a good look.

I had a couple apprentice haircuts from Arlo, supervised by Thom Robins and Brett Douin. For both of my cuts, Arlo gave me an amazing experience that left me feeling much more confident in myself than when I had entered.
Arlo and his talented supervisors knew exactly what I wanted, despite myself not being very good with describing what I want. Arlo was highly knowledgeable for my unruly hair-type, and gave me successful tips on managing and styling my hair, along with great product recommendations. Keep in mind that during my time, he was only an apprentice! Arlo blew my expectations away, and I am very thankful for him to have worked on my hair.
I've had some history with salons in Downtown Vancouver, but this is the first time I can say I didn't come for a simple haircut, but more for the experience itself. The difference between this salon and others that I've been to is day and night. You can feel the passion and care that Arlo and the Thom. team have. They deserve all their recognition and more, they are masters of their craft.
Thank you Arlo, Mr. Robins and Mr. Douin for the opportunity to have my haircut at your salon. I will return!

Great experience! I personally find it challenging to explain the type of cut i want for my hair and over time i’ve developed and curated the way I describe to my stylist how I want it done. So far, it's always either too short or I have to trim it myself when I get home.
This time, i didn’t have to try explaining too much because my stylist understood right away what needed to be done. Jordan also did an outstanding job communicating the cuts he’s making and the products he’s using and it helped me gain confidence on the final result. It’s my first time here, but i’d say the biggest difference among other places i’ve been to is the LEVEL of attention to detail, which is really key to having an amazing haircut! Will come back for sure! 😊
