Yesterday we said goodbye to our Great Pyrenees who was almost 12. This was only the 2nd time we visited since moving to Poco. The first time we came ALL the staff were friendly and accommodating for our 170lb doggy that doesn't like other dogs or having her back end or nails touched. They were patient kind and took care of her. They allowed us to just come through the back side door and handle everything there in that room instead of walking through the office with other dogs, smells and people. We had to bring her back yesterday to say goodbye. Both times Dr. Duckhorn and the Staff were so kind. They could have prescribed hundreds of dollars of meds to keep her alive but he was patient, honest and helped us say goodbye. We didn't feel rushed at any time. She was given dignity, they were gentle with her and she was at peace. We are so thankful and feel they met every need we and Nala had. Thank you for guiding and not pressuring us and supporting us in this horrible time. We appreciate you all so much.

Years ago I called Port Coquitlam Animal Hospital when my dog was sprayed in the eyes by a skunk. They weren't my vet, no one was open I was in a panic. They were so kind and helpful. Fast forward years later, our current dog has a leg wound, they saw us Family Day Monday. Dr. Duckhorn was wonderful. Our dog is an older rescue who has challenging behaviours. All the staff has been so accommodating and kind. We will be switching vets to come here as our primary care. Came back again today for a check in, as we didn't quite clean the wound correctly and were concerned about the healing process. Again Dr. Duckhorn and helping staff were wonderful, cleaning him up, giving us tips for care, and being happy to see him again if we are concerned. I can't speak more highly of our experience here.

I am sharing my experience regarding the treatment of my cat, Whiskey, at this veterinary clinic. Whiskey was a healthy seven-year-old cat who passed away from kidney failure on January 6, three days after a catheterization procedure performed here. I brought him to the clinic on January 2 after two days of difficulty urinating. The veterinarian said he was otherwise healthy but had a urethral blockage and recommended immediate catheterization, which was done the same day. I was later told I could take him home and bring him to emergency care if needed. At that time, I was informed his kidneys were “not doing well,” and that the clinic could not keep him overnight because it closed at 6 PM. After returning home, I noticed continuous discharge, which I assumed was normal. Two days later, Whiskey became very weak and passed away suddenly. Afterward, I learned that urinary retention in male cats is common and sometimes treated without immediate surgery. Given the short duration of symptoms, I am left questioning whether this procedure was necessary. I share this so other pet owners can make informed decisions.

We started bringing our 19 year old cat to Port Coquitlam Animal Hospital 6 months before he passed. We wish we had started bringing him sooner since, I was never really happy with our previous vet. The staff were excellent in their care of our sweet boy. They were very helpful in food suggestions and in the delivery of medication. The front desk staff were always super helpful and friendly. Kerry, the clinic manager, always took the time to see how things were going and offered a listening ear for any of my concerns. The veterinary assistants were always excited to see him, since, he was such a gentle cat. Dr Edward Hollingshead was his primary veterinarian who provided excellent care and expertise. We saw Dr. Bryan Elders on our last few visits. He was so kind, and explained everything so well as our beloved cat was starting to decline. We felt we were provided the best support for our cat and ourselves, when it was time to say goodbye. We were so thankful for the compassion Dr Elders and Taylor, the veterinary assistant, offered on that final day. It made that very difficult day and closure much easier.

My husband and I have both seen Dr. Bryan Elder on separate occasions for our cat, Yoshi, and we can’t say enough good things about him. Dr. Elder is incredibly kind, attentive, and takes the time to explain every concern and what to watch for regarding our cat’s health. My husband used to foster dogs for years and has been to many vets, and he said Dr. Elder is by far the best vet he’s ever met. Everyone at Port Coquitlam Animal Hospital has been so kind and caring, from the front desk team during follow-ups to helping us during an emergency visit. Thank you so much, Dr. Elder and the entire team, for the wonderful care!
