If you sign up your toddler for ANY classes here, be aware that the staff does not follow policy. They allow older siblings to use the equipment during your PAID class. It is unacceptable that my 2 year told had 10/ 11 year old siblings of other children in her class taking her turn on equipment when we PAID for this class. The coach is so uninterested & so unhappy that she never interacts with the kids. Such a disgrace. Please please spend your money elsewhere.

We didn't have a good experience at Mountain Shadows and felt obligated to leave a review so that more parents can be aware. Our daughter was excited to join the competitive program having done recreation the previous year. She did the trial and was accepted into the program, and assigned a coach. We signed a 12 month contract starting in July, that committed to the fees for the year. She trained 4 hours per week (2 days) as a 9 year old. At the start of the season, there was a general meeting where we learned more about how the club operates. A separate volunteer-run association handles much of the work that keeps the program running and puts in loads of hours on unpaid time. It was clear there was ongoing tension between the volunteer board and the club itself at the meeting, which from a parent’s perspective it felt quite unsettling. The gym itself is quite outdated, and most of the new equipment is purchased and maintained by the parent-run association, not the club itself. Parents are expected to volunteer 30+ hours a season with things like cleaning the pit, running events, and fundraising, which is a big ask on top of $250+ monthly fees. The fundraisers do offset the cost of meets and are used to supply uniforms and bags, so you do get value from it. Meanwhile, the club management seemed quite hands-off and disconnected. It didn’t feel like they oversaw or held the coaches accountable. Despite training four hours a week for months, she didn’t get much encouragement from her coach. It got to the point where she often said she felt “terrible at gymnastics.” We felt her coach was not well-suited to working with younger children. When they had a stand in coach for a few weeks who was kind, supportive, and encouraging, our daughter felt capable and motivated. She probably grew more in those 2 weeks than she had in the previous two months. Communication also wasn’t great. We’d get occasional email updates from the club, but they were sent to everyone in the program (all age groups), so they rarely applied to our daughter directly. Annoying that the club didn’t know how to use email either, the emails were sent without BCCing recipients, so our inboxes would often get flooded with accidental “reply alls.” One of the most annoying (heartless?) things was when my daughter came down with an ear infection the week before a competition (that we had committed to months before), and were told that if she missed the practice she’d be pulled from the meet. She practiced for 45 minutes before coming home exhausted. There were other things too, like being asked by a coach to pay extra for help with a routine, which felt frustrating given the training already covered in the regular fees. When I questioned it with the club management we were told it was up to the coaches what they do/charge for. Lastly, the club owner (an older man) who would regularly hang around practice, walk the floor and interact with the athletes. I didn’t think that was particularly appropriate given the age group/generation of the athletes. There’s probably more if I really digest the season, but overall, quite a poor experience. (2 Stars for the Parent Association. Thank you!)

They refuse to install AC. They had my child training in +37 heat in their building for 4 hours straight. With no AC. When I suggested installing it. I was treated as if I was being hyperbolic for caring about the well being for my child. They gas light me, and responded, "No athletes have ever had an issue before." When yes, they did. My daughter got heat stroke just a couple days before. Hence my request about AC being installed. The building needs to be better maintained. It needs to be cleaned properly. All they seem to prioritize is how to keep making money. Yet, they fail to maintain and improve their space.

This would be a five star review if they didn't have incredibly toxic air fresheners! These are very toxic to the endocrine system and should not be anywhere near adolescence kids. I will update the review if this changes! Otherwise this is absolutely a favourite place and I've been going here most of my life! I love taking my baby here for the drop in. I hope that they continue that.

Both my daughters are learning the fundamentals of gymnastics here. Coach Nicole and Coach Kai work seamlessly together and always provide a wonderful experience for all the kids. I would highly recommend The coaches as well as the facility. My girls always look forward to their classes and enjoy them very much.
