We hired JamillaDCPhotography for our August 2, 2025 wedding and were excited to have our day captured professionally. Unfortunately, our experience with both the photography on the day and the final gallery was very disappointing. During portraits there was very little direction provided, which resulted in many photos appearing awkward and unstructured. At several points members of our wedding party had to step in and guide people on where to stand because there was little instruction being given. This added unnecessary stress during a part of the day when we were relying on the photographer to confidently lead and organize the group. Like many couples, we trusted the photographer’s expertise to guide us through posing and help capture meaningful moments throughout the day. While nearly 600 photos were delivered, our concerns were never about the number of images but about the overall execution and lack of direction during the portrait portion of the day. We also noticed that our first kiss photo — one of the most meaningful moments of the ceremony — was not included in the original gallery we received. After reaching out to ask about it, we were initially told that the moment had been captured and was already available in the gallery. After reviewing the gallery again and confirming it was not there, the images were later uploaded for us. This situation was frustrating and confusing, especially since the first kiss is such an important moment that couples expect to easily find in their wedding gallery. Some other important family photos were also not included in the original gallery we received, which was frustrating given how meaningful those memories are. When we reached out privately to share these concerns, we were hoping for an open conversation and some acknowledgement of the issues we experienced. Instead, the response felt very defensive and much of the responsibility was redirected back toward us. We were told that our limited requests for specific photos may have contributed to the outcome. As clients, we trusted the photographer’s professional expertise to guide posing and capture important moments throughout the day, which is why this explanation was disappointing for us. As a couple planning a wedding for the first time, we relied on the photographer’s experience to guide us through portraits and help ensure important moments were documented. We also asked about the possibility of a partial refund given the issues we experienced, but that request was declined. Because wedding photos are something you look back on for the rest of your life, this experience has been incredibly difficult for us. There are many photos from our wedding day that we struggle to look at because of the posing, missed moments, and editing issues. Instead of feeling excited to revisit our wedding gallery, it has honestly been upsetting. We have included several photos with this review to provide context for the concerns mentioned above. These images show examples of the posing and spacing issues we experienced during portraits, where there was very little direction provided. We have also included an example of a photo where a family member had their eyes closed and the edit that was provided to fix it. In the original photo he looks completely natural, but the edited version appears noticeably altered and unnatural. Wedding photos are once-in-a-lifetime memories, which is why this experience has been so disappointing for us. Looking back, choosing a photographer is one of the most important decisions in wedding planning, and unfortunately this ended up being our biggest regret from the day. We did attempt to address these concerns privately with the photographer before sharing our experience. We are sharing this review so that other couples can ask detailed questions about posing direction, communication, and expectations before booking. This review reflects our personal experience as paying clients who hired this photographer for our wedding.
