I have reviewed over 270+ businesses and I am in the top 10% for Google reviews of restaurants worldwide and I have only given two bad reviews and this is one of them. I have never been treated so badly as a customer at GoodLife Fitness in my life.
I really liked this gym until I had a run in with a territorial, unprofessional personal trainer whose name is Jeff. Before the front desk talked to me about him, I have had zero contact or words with him in the four months that I have been a member at this gym.
I came in this morning (I am there 5-6 times a week) and the front staff told me that he had complained about me and she said : “Jeff asked you not to stretch in the trainers section and not to walk between him and his clients.” I was stunned and furious at 7 am in the morning, being talked to like I was a child, over something so petty and absurd.
I stretch my shoulders in the trainers section in one of the few doorways in the gym and I use it for less than 45 seconds and I leave. I walked around Jeff and his client when I got there and as they had spread farther apart while I was there, when I left, I said “excuse me” and walked between them, that’s it. It’s a tight area, in a corner and they were just standing there talking, six feet apart.
Is that rude? Is this disrespectful? Saying excuse me? That was literally it. Walking between people is rude in a busy gym? In an area I was told by a staff member that I could use? Absolutely ridiculous.
My wife goes to another personal trainer at this gym (Shannon, who is wonderful, go to her instead) 2-3 times a week and we have spent thousands of dollars at this gym this year on personal training. I was told that I could use the trainers area by my wife, as per Shannon the personal trainer, but that’s the last time I will go anywhere near that section of the gym.
This was a completely petty, unnecessary, unprofessional way to treat a customer. All of the staff have been great, except for him, but it only takes one. He has ruined this gym for me as he is always there.
Who escalated things? Certainly not me. Did he say a world to me: not one word. He had the front staff ‘escalate things’ by talking to me about what he wanted, as I had broken ‘his’ unwritten rule. I had no idea I had caused such a big problem for him in the 45 seconds that I was in ‘his territory.’
Was that ‘a direct and respectful conversation about a misunderstanding?’ Having the front staff handle something that he was not capable of handling himself seems very odd. This was such a such a ridiculous situation to get completely blown out of proportion over nothing.
He also told other staff members that he “was going to yell at me” at the time. If that is how he was going to handle things, I’m glad that he didn’t. Is that professional? It’s also odd that other staff members told me what he had said to them, isn’t it?
I also called the home office to complain about his behaviour and how I was treated; something I have never done in my life. They agreed with me and apologized, as this is completely unacceptable behaviour by a staff member in a supposed ‘inclusive and welcoming gym.’
Where is the ‘Respect, Caring and Belonging’ in their motto? I certainly didn’t see any. Just words on a sticker on their door. I no longer feel like this is a place for me.

I do think it's the best gym it town even if I don't think the layout is great. I mean you have 1/3 of the gym dedicated to cardio, 10% of which is ever in use, 1/3 of the gym is an artificial turf section which is hardly used by anyone, and the other third is weights which is often full with no open benches. Seems to me the 100 unused treadmills are taking up valuable weight area. But otherwise, a good gym.

I’ve had an amazing experience at GoodLife, and a big part of that is thanks to Jeff. I was scared to come into the gym at first and was scared to use the equipment(not knowledgeable on how they worked) I read a not so nice review about Jeff and I would have to disagree with it. Jeff is an outstanding trainer—knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely invested in his clients’ success. Jeff takes the time to understand your goals and designs workouts that are effective, challenging, and safe. He explains exercises clearly, corrects form, and keeps you motivated without ever making you feel discouraged.
Because of Jeff, I feel stronger, more confident, and consistent with my workouts. His positive attitude and encouragement make every session enjoyable, and it’s clear he truly cares about helping people improve their health and fitness. If you’re considering personal training at GoodLife, I highly recommend working with Jeff—you won’t be disappointed!

I had a few personal training sessions with Jeff and I will say he is one of the best trainers I have ever had, very kind, respectful, professional, and intelligent. I also love how there is a designated area in the gym solely reserved for the client and their trainer, it made me feel very safe and comfortable.

I have just completed a full year of personal training with Jeff, and I feel compelled to share my experience.
Jeff is, without question, one of the most professional, respectful, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring trainers I have ever worked with. He consistently goes above and beyond—often helping and supporting me even on days when I am not scheduled to train. He cares deeply not only about physical performance, but about overall health, mental well-being, and long-term sustainability.
Jeff has supported me with training, nutrition, recovery, and mindset. He treats people as people, not projects. His knowledge is extensive, his approach is thoughtful, and his professionalism is unwavering. He is supportive, understanding, and deeply invested in the well-being of those he works with.
What stands out most is his character. Jeff is respectful of others, respectful of shared space, and committed to maintaining a safe and professional training environment—for his clients and for everyone in the gym.
I am aware that a recent review portrays him in a very different light. Based on my long-term, firsthand experience, I found that review to be exaggerated and inconsistent with who Jeff actually is. If there was a concern or misunderstanding, a direct and respectful conversation would have been the mature and appropriate first step. Escalating immediately without dialogue says far more about the situation than it does about Jeff.
After a year of consistent interaction, I can say confidently that Jeff is professional in every way. I trust him completely as a trainer, and I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for a trainer who truly cares about people—not just workouts.
