The rating here is reflective of my fairly negative experience using their drop-off service. Our washing machine is broken and we have been using laundromats while we wait for parts to come in. East Van Laundry is a bit further from my house than other laundromats, but I thought that using the drop-off service might save me a bit of hassle. It has, in fact, been nothing but hassle, so lesson learned! I've been doing my own laundry at a self-serve laundromat closer to my house, and even though that is a bit more of a time investment to change things over myself it is far preferable to what I experienced attempting to use this service.
The drop off experience itself was awkward, and at pickup we were hit with surprise fees over and above the per-pound rate which no one had warned us about and which we did not request, as well as inaccurate billing for a service we did not receive. My laundry came back clean and seems to have been washed according to the specifications I provided (unscented detergent), a fact which entirely accounts for the stars it is possible to give them. Unfortunately, someone else's items which had been washed in a heavily scented detergent were mixed in with my clothes.
At drop off, the person working the counter seemed confused about what we wanted done. It seems like maybe they don’t have very many people using the drop off service, and they weren’t sure how it usually goes. This was my first time, too, so I also wasn’t sure! I asked for the same-day wash and dry service, but they said since it was already noon and "the machine" was already going they couldn’t do same-day. Maybe they only do one big same-day load? I was a bit surprised I couldn’t do a same-day load because they are open until 8pm on weekdays, but I took out a few items I needed sooner and opted for the next-day wash and dry service. I clarified that I did not want the wash-dry-fold service and saw this preference get marked on the tag.
At pickup, I discovered that they had charged me a $30 “small carpet” fee for a small bath mat, as well as a $10 “small blanket” fee for one of my towels. The towel is pretty big, so the $10 fee seems almost reasonable, but the $30 fee for the bath mat is egregious. It isn’t rubber-backed or anything like that, and it wasn’t very dirty because it is washed weekly. It requires no special care. No one warned me I might be charged additional fees at all beyond the per-pound price for general laundry service, and no one called me to ask what I wanted to do about this item. I would not have agreed to a $30 charge to clean my bath mat if they had attempted to communicate with me, and would gladly have accepted it not being washed at all. I pointed out that the towel and the bath mat were surprise fees before paying, but the person working the counter at that time just shrugged and said that’s what it costs to get those done.
When I got home and looked at the receipt more closely I discovered that I was also charged for the wash-dry-fold service even though this service was not provided and I only asked for the wash-dry service. It’s only 4 dollars but on top of everything else this really has left a bad impression.
To make matters worse, there were several items that did not belong to me mixed in with my clothes. Most annoying for me personally is that I now have someone else's clothes, which is one more errand to deal with, but these had also been washed in a heavily-scented detergent. Although I prefer an unscented detergent, that is not a major issue for me. I think it could very well be an issue for someone who needs unscented detergent due to chemical sensitivities, so if that describes you please be aware!

Love it! This place is fantastic. It’s reasonably priced, clean with very friendly staff. I was in and out in less than an hour with a large load of blankets.

The staff is very attentive and friendly! Great place for self-service laundry. They accept cash and card. They have small and large washing machines and large dryer machines. Fair pricing and so convenient they accept card. Clean and easy to use. Thank you !

Had a great first experience at East Van Laundry! The equipment looks new and everything is really clean. The dryers are bigger and more efficient compared to other places I’ve been. Huge thanks to Malisa for helping me through the process—she was super kind and made it all easy. Highly recommend!

Being from out of town for a couple of weeks, we needed to do laundry and selected this location after multiple searches. Wow - were we impressed! The employee was amazing - greeted us nicely, explained the layout, and was very helpful throughout. The facility is well maintained with a relaxing atmosphere. Overall: well done!
