My family and I recently hired Romy from Cheers Photography to take our family photos. We were very impressed with the fantastic service and experience we had. Not only did Romy pick a beautiful fall location with trees of changing colours but he helped us pick the ideal time of day for the perfect shots. One thing that I think makes Romy stand apart from the rest is his fun and energetic personality. Only moments into meeting our family, Romy had my four children giggling, their grandmother smiling and my wife and I beaming. He was definitely able to take control of the potentially awkward situation and put us all at ease. Then once the pictures came we were absolutely thrilled with the results. I have repetitively promised my wife over the last five years for her birthdays, mother’s days, our anniversaries - family pictures... the thought of becoming a mannequin, staging smiles, keeping children calm and patient while following directions from a non-enthused photographer prevented it... or at least caused me to wait several years before getting the courage to put something together. We’ve been there before with a wedding photographer and family studio portrait company; holding poses while lenses and camera settings get adjusted, reposing and holding positions until our body hurt, only to receive lack lustre images and prints that showed a bland family going through the motions of getting their pictures taken. After a brief conversation with Romy and Cheers Photography I finally setup the family shoot. The whole family wasn’t thrilled for all the previous reasons and then panicked as the dressing of the mannequin stage began, and then worry of the weather as we wanted outdoor shots. With kids 6, 7 and 14, along with grandparents too experienced with photographers to trust them... everyone brought their own cameras to ensure at least some decent shots. Wow, were we all wrong. Romy suggested the best time of day to capture natural lighting, accommodated the weathers schedule, met us in our own home and ventured with us caravan style to the parks we had in mind for shots. From the moment we stepped out of our vehicles he instantly developed rapport with our kids, even got the 14 year old smiling and over the next 20 minutes had the old folks calmed down enough to put their cameras away. Romy didn’t have us pose, didn’t push us into prolonged positions with tin lipped smiles; he kept everyone relaxed and calm, keeping the youngest engaged and the moody teenager laughing. His ability to take away the stuffiness and stress tension of the dreaded family photo shoot allowed three generations of my family to be themselves - from six to 77. He didn’t fuss over his camera, ask for repetitive retakes or have us act unnatural for the “perfect” shot or setup. Everything was natural and allowed our family to be the focal point. Romy and Cheers Photography took four days to send us a convenient link to all the pictures captured over the course of an hour in the park. An hour that had the perfect lighting, the perfect pictures and most importantly perfect photos with three generations being themselves - genuine and true. Romy’s skill, his professionalism and his ability to work with everyone is a reflection of his personality; and the camera a direct extension of himself. I knew we needed Romy to capture our wedding day within 17 seconds of meeting him. The vibes he emits into the universe are the perfect frequency - a rare blend of playful ridiculousness and confident humility. He immediately and effortlessly won over my super closed husband, something I still haven’t managed to do. Needless to say, it was a no-brainer to team up with him. Everybody had so much fun being photographed on my wedding day that I almost didn’t even care how the images turned out (they were obviously STUNNING, by the way). The entire experience felt more like hanging out with a long-time friend. There was zero stress felt by anybody, and I know that Romy played a role in that. Years have passed since and as a member of his team, I am able to be a part of not only the creative aspect, but also the less obvious magic which occurs behind the scenes. Romy gets in front of issues, both technical and “human”, before they have a chance to arise and when they inevitably do occur, he mitigates quickly and effectively using his natural resourcefulness and experience. His energy is contagious and I am lucky to be a part of his team where we are able to draw out the best in people to capture love in all forms. I look forward to many more years of creating together in an environment of pure respect and fun!
